for funders + partners

a platform working artists can actually use.

54siblings connects working artists from Africa and the Americas to commissions, collectors, and each other — and trains young operators to run the platform themselves. We're seeking partners to fund the next cohort and expand the community.

mission

real work, real routes to income.

Talent is evenly distributed across the world; opportunity is not. 54siblings exists so a working artist in Lagos, Kingston, or Nairobi has the same practical path to commissions, collectors, and community that peers in New York and London take for granted. We're built for artists who already make things — not just those who talk about making them.

program model

three interlocking parts.

The community

A vetted directory of working artists across Africa and the Americas, open to commissions. Every artist is a real practitioner with a portfolio, not a name on a list.

The commissions desk

Clients — brands, publications, nonprofits, private collectors — brief us, and we match them with the right artist or team, taking a small platform fee that funds operations.

The operator fellowship

Young operators run the platform for six-month cycles, learning program design, community operations, and creative commerce. Fellows leave with a certification and a project stipend.

outcomes we measure

what "working" means here.

  • Commissions routed. How many artists received a paid brief through 54siblings in the last 12 months.
  • Income earned by artists. Total commission value routed to artists, reported quarterly.
  • Time to first commission. Median weeks from an artist joining to their first paid brief.
  • Repeat clients. Percentage of commission clients who return within a year.
  • Fellow progression. Where our alumni fellows are 12 months after they finish.
  • Retention. Percentage of listed artists still active a year after joining.
funding need

what a full cycle costs.

A six-month program cycle — one fellow, ~54 community artists, platform operations, and the commissions desk — runs on a lean, transparent budget.

Fellow stipend + equipment (6 months)$18,000
Platform + hosting + tooling$4,500
Artist onboarding + verification$6,000
Commissions desk operations$9,500
Convening + community events$7,000
Fiscal sponsorship + admin$5,000
Total per cycle$50,000

How partners come in

Restricted program sponsorship: direct support for a named cycle, fellow, community onboarding pool, or in-kind program need.

Unrestricted gift: flexible support for the most urgent platform, artist, and operating needs in a cycle.

Cycle sponsor ($50k) funds one full cohort, named alongside the cohort's public work.

Fellow sponsor ($18k) funds one fellow, including stipend and equipment.

Community sponsor ($6k) funds artist onboarding for a cycle.

Program partner — in-kind support (tools, printing, distribution). Case-by-case.
